This state park has a little of everything. You can walk part of the old railroad bridge for great vistas, stop by the protected beach - small and crowded - or stop for a nice ice cream cone. Thought it was a bit expensive at $4.50/person, but, what the heck. The swimming area was constricted due to the sea grass.

After a short drive north from Key West, we stopped at Bahia Honda State Park a couple days after Labor Day, and the beach was pretty empty. When you enter the park ($9 entry fee for 2 people), you have the option to turn left or right. We chose left, and found a near-empty beach, and spent a couple hours snorkeling.

If you don’t like crowds, then December might just be the time for you to visit Bahia Honda State Park.. It was so quiet and peaceful when we went in December.
